Bronze Statue of Confucius from Wenling City, Zhejiang Province

It is unknown when the statue was cast, but during the reign of Tianfu in the Later Jin dynasty (936-947), a group of Confucius’ descendants who had migrated to Fujian province fled to Wenling city, Zhejiang province, and brought it to Wenling. According to local Confucius’ descendants, the statue had originally been carried from Shandong province to Fujian, and then from Fujian to Zhejiang. It is collected in private in most times and only brought to an ancestral hall for worship on anniversaries of Confucius' birth. It shows Confucius sitting with his hands folded, the left knee damaged, and it seems that he should have a ritual baton in his hands.
